The Guadalupe is the Hill Country’s most famous river, but Comfort sits well upstream of the part most people picture.

Below Canyon Lake the Guadalupe is dam-controlled, cypress-lined and busy with outfitters. Up here it is a different river — quieter, clearer, and largely bordered by private ranch land, with public access at road crossings and parks. It is a place for a slow afternoon in the water rather than a rented tube and a shuttle bus.

This upstream stretch is quieter than the outfitter-lined water below Canyon Lake. There is no commercial tube rental at Comfort, and flow varies a great deal by season — check the gauge before planning anything on the water.
